The Austrian is arguably one of the most versatile players in the world. He can play as a left-back, centre-back and even in central midfield. Real Madrid can benefit a lot from his versatility. They have been struggling with injuries and his signing would make sense.
He has made over 350 appearances for the Bavarian giants since 2010 and has won 9 Bundesliga titles, 2 UCLs, 6 DFB-Pokal cups, 1 CWC, 2 UEFA Supercups and 5 German Supercups with them. He has been pretty successful.
His contract runs down at the end of the 20/21 season, so he’ll eventually be a free agent if he doesn’t renew. He currently earns £165,000 per week, which can be managed if the club offloads some players like Isco and Ceballos (loaned out), who have fallen out of favour.
Isco’s future is another issue which I’ll cover in another thread. He currently earns £210,000 per week and even if Alaba wants a higher wage than his current one, they can easily manage it with his sale.
The 7-time Austrian footballer of the year is 28, so he still has a good 5-6 years at the top. He would bring a wealth of experience to the club. With the likes of Süle, Hernandez and Davies in the team, he may not be guaranteed a place in the starting XI every game.
Real Madrid’s situation: Ramos and Varane are the first choice centre-backs and Mendy is the first choice left-back, but Ramos is 34 and might continue for another 2-3 years. We have been witnessing Marcelo’s unfortunate decline and it’s very likely that he will leave soon.
Militao and Nacho’s presence might make seem Alaba as a surplus to requirements, but Alaba is a solid choice and can also play in the midfield if they have an injury crisis. It solves a lot of their problems.
Joining Real Madrid would be good for his career. He’ll be playing for arguably the best club in the world. Let’s hope they realise the pros of this deal and sign him.
