On induction of the Chinese VT-4 tanks by Pakistan Army: https://twitter.com/VinodDX9/status/1308428323819675648?s=20
- Feedback from VT-4 trials in Pakistan was less than satisfactory but then, Pakistan Army does not have options
- 6th Armored Div under I Corps is equipped with obsolete Al-Zarrar tanks
- Production & upgrade of Al-Khalid is patchy
- This also raised questions about is quality
Going by the pictures shared by DGISPR, the trial unit is 6 Lancers. 6 Lancers was one of the British Indian Army armored regiments allotted to Pakistan in 1947 and was then known as 6th Duke of Connaught's Own Lancers. Renamed to 6 Lancers in 1956.
During 1965 war, 6 Lancers took part in Battle of Asal Uttar as part of 5 Armored Brigade. It Commanding Officer was killed on 9th September 1965 and the regiment suffered very heavy losses at the hands of Indian 3rd Cavalry Regiment.
BTW, at the start of the above video, you can make out a horse shaped figure on round background like the one attached below. This is the formation sign of Pakistan Army's 6th Armored Division.
The good thing which I see happening on Indian side with VT-4 induction in Pakistan Army is upgrade of T-90 tanks to T-90MS standard. And speedier upgrade to T-72 fleet. And hopefully, someone somewhere will order Arjun tanks in bulk.
There's an error in above tweet. The UCAV is simply Wing Loong II and not CH-4 Wing Loong II. CH-4 is a different type of UAV from China. My apologies.
- Chinese Wing Loong II UCAV
- Version used with PLA is called GJ-2. Differs from WL-II in absence of winglets.
- Payload: 400 kg (not confirmed)
- Endurance: 30+ hrs
- Satellite link for long range (1,500 km radius) operations
+
Weapon Types -
- China has developed customized weapons for UCAV ops
(1) AKD-10/LJ-7 'Blue Arrow) (air-to-surface version of HJ-10 ATGM with laser guidance)
- Pic-01: Blue Arrow missile from a downed WL-II UCAV in Libya.
- Pic-02: AKD-10 on PLA gunship
(2) Air to Surface Bombs (PGM):
- FT-7/130 (130kg)
- FT-9/50 (50 kg)
- GB-7/50 (50 kg)
- GB-4/100 (100 kg)
- FT-10/25 (25 kg)
(3) Ground Control Stations (from Wing Loong II exported to Nigerian Armed Forces)

- Wing Loong II will represent first MALE (Medium Altitude-High-Endurance) UAV based Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance capability for Pakistan Army.
- It operates a a type of other drones but the same are relatively lesser in performance.
