S. Korea already qualifies for maximum Level 3 which would essentially be its first lockdown (800+ cases daily for 1 week+). Gov. to decide tomorrow whether to raise level. They are considering blow to economy.

It would also be a blow to the gov's "K-quarantine" success story. https://twitter.com/BBCLBicker/status/1342636050003451905
While numbers floating around 1,000 daily seem like nothing compared to other nations, it's not going down well among S. Koreans. Also apparent lag in securing sufficient vaccines not helping. President Moon's approval rating at 37.4%, well below negative sentiment at 59.1%.
"South Korea seemed to be winning the fight against the coronavirus. But with over 15,000 infections in the last 15 days, a deadly resurgence has reached new heights, prompting soul-searching on how the nation sleepwalked into a crisis". Via @KimTongHyung http://apne.ws/VSMREVb
Remember Moon's approval rating was low when first wave hit S. Korea. His popularity only increased after it became apparent S. Korea was doing better compared to Western countries. And then the "K-quarantine" PR engine was unleashed. https://twitter.com/koryodynasty/status/1250205576002297858?s=19
So now we've reached a point where the government has been coming up with constant and prolonged "strengthened" measures without actually raising the level quickly and decisively from early on. Very much the same political nightmare seen in other countries. https://twitter.com/oldtype/status/1342681818370199553?s=19
