The difference in depth in how they approached TLJ vs TROS is heartbreaking, honestly
And I'm really not cherry picking quotes here, all of the TLJ art book is driven by story, character, theme, purpose, whereas the TROS art book is very, throwing shit at the wall, trying to find something that is neat or cool, and JJ/Terrio changing things constantly
Unfortunately The Force Awakens art book is only marginally better than the TROS art book
Even the things in TLJ I'm a bit ๐Ÿค” about are there for story reasons:
It's also kinda telling that the 'deepest' quotes in the TROS art book are from a meeting at ILM in 2014, including Dave Filoni, Pablo Hidalgo, Kiri Hart, etc. Not JJ, and I tried to find the 'best' quotes from Terrio. ๐Ÿ˜•
Reading these back to back really shows what it means to create something character-driven, vs, not.
A subtle thing from TLJ I did not notice, they designed the porgs and the Caretakers to look like they came from the same evolutionary roots:

A good point from Chris Terrio:
Ugh, the poor designers ๐Ÿ˜ฉ
This is gorgeous. I'm sad the Oracle sequence got cut.
Anyway, give your film enough story development and production time, character-driven plot and themes, don't jerk your team around, and you might end up with more Force Awakens and less Rise of Skywalker. ๐ŸŒŒ
