NBA basketball without fans in packed arenas loaded with energy and music is not as entertaining.

College hoops is unchanged. The purity of the level, the togetherness, culture and watching of young players as they compete as student-athletes remains special.
This is how I arrived at my conclusion:
1) NBA games are an entertainment production. It’s basketball but it’s so much more. Much of this is taken away when arenas are closed.
2) Xmas Day NBA games usually have a sense of urgency like the playoffs. These games simply don’t.
3) The constant complaining about every call by grown men in the NBA is even more evident in quiet gyms. It hurts the entertainment value.
4) On-court energy and defensive intensity seems down in the NBA. The shortened off-season could play a role.
5) The NBA had more entertainment value to lose due to the pandemic. These are the best players in the world in arguably the most exciting sport. The NBA was on top of the world in entertainment. It could only go down.
6) The purpose of the NBA is entertainment & money. The purpose of college hoops is education, life lessons, engaging alumni & creation of revenue streams to finance and market the university. The purpose of the NBA is hurt by the pandemic, the purpose of college is hurt less.
