son’s foreign lover or wife can cook and clean. You will see these men in markets shopping, then go home to cook, clean and tell everyone that they are in love and that they married a good woman.

When these men bring their foreign wives home, their mothers won’t let them touch a broom. With a smile, they will gladly do all the work and ask the foreign wife to sit pretty. Whereas, if a Nigerian woman doesn’t sweep the village, she’s not a wife material.
I once saw a video of a Nigerian igbo man celebrating a pot of jollof rice his foreign wife cooked for dinner and other men cheered and clapped, saying she tried. I know that I wouldn’t serve my dog what I saw in that video but I was surprised that many men didn’t condemn it.
There was no meat or fish. The rice was clearly overcooked and I guess it turned out that way because the man couldn’t cook either. So he had to manage it.
In another post, a man was lamenting that his wife doesn’t do “womanly duties” like cooking and cleaning. There was a lot of bashing to the the woman from men. Overseas, these men would never go in a foreign online community to complain about cleaning.
He will never complain that his wife doesn’t know how to cook, because it’s not a big deal. Overseas, men don’t treat women as maids. The man can cook and clean and still function.
We’ve also seen situations where Nigerian men teach their foreign lovers and wives how to cook but berate Nigerian women who can’t cook. Yes, not every woman can cook but many are willing to learn.
At the slightest provocation, a Nigerian man would pummel his wife and brag about it, but their demons are tamed overseas, because the law won’t see reason with them for hitting their wives. In other words, our men are capable of doing the right thing, only if the society
force them to. They can marry a woman that can’t cook and still be happy in the marriage. Their parents can survive it, and their friends can accept it. They are also capable of not hitting their wives no matter how upset they are, because
the law won’t tolerate it or see reasons with them. Nigerian men in Nigeria are very capable of treating Nigerian women like they treat foreign women. But to make this happen, the mentality has to change.
