Why what Mamamoo used in their performance was NOT an Azaan, a thread by a muslim who hears the Azaan every day.
First of lets start with what the Azaan actually is. The Azaan is the call for prayer, recited by a muezzin who is always a man. The most important thing about the Azaan is its words, and here they are.
This is the video of Mamamoo's performance, which people are claiming used the Azaan as the bgm.
This is the sample Mamamoo used. What Mamamoo used is Melismatic singing (acrobatic singing) which is also practiced with Tajweed so it isn’t surprising that people confuse it for Azaan. But its not.
Not everything that includes vocalizing is the Azaan, for e.g there is the arabic mawal, smth that is extremely common in the middle east, Turkey, and so many other places. It sounds like this:
Not only that but as I said before, the most important part of the Azaan are its words. The music used is very clearly only vocalization, and there is no arabic words from the Azaan there.
This is how the Azaan sounds like:
Also just to add, Middle Eastern melismatic singing was developed way before Islam (and thus the Azaan). Not everything foreign that you hear is disrespectful or culture appropriation (which btw, Islam is not a culture, its a religion)
So please just stop it. I am so sick and tired of my religion being used for fanwars. Hold people that should be held accountable accountable. Before you start attacking and speaking over Muslims do your research. And please stop only listening to us when it fits your narrative.
Adding this, no explanation needed.
