If all of America's best athletes played football, USMNT would possibly be a traditional top 5 powerhouse.
Let me explain:
What few realize is that it's only a matter of time before USA becomes a giant in world football, just depends on when we take it seriously. Currently all of America's dominant athletes play basketball (NBA), American football (NFL), baseball (MLB) & that's how its always been.
It really comes down to 2 things; serious youth develop from a young age, & also persuading these young stars to play football (soccer) from a young age. Other countries are already realizing if they pull some of our athletes, they can turn them into elite footballers (Pulisic).
One brief example is Odell Beckham Jr., all-pro NFL wide receiver. According to CBS sports, Odell previously spoke about his soccer background and love for the sport: "Soccer was the first sport I played since I was 3."
Odell: "When I was 13, I was going to join the US Men's Soccer national team, but growing up how we grew up, you couldn't just leave the country and go play another sport, so I had to stick with basketball, baseball, football."
Don’t believe that Odell would make a good footballer?
Another:
The main way to address this opportunity is to keep heavily promoting soccer at a young level; building better academies, improve coaching, and constantly investing in our professional leagues to make more attractive.
The recent growth being implemented into both the MLS and a growing trend in youth soccer in America are positive steps and could potentially create a more serious culture.
