26) So I finally tell Mike the truth. I have lost the Yngwie tape. The only one in existence. And then Yngwie absolutely blows up. And of course, Mike was right, this one copy of that demo would be a very important and rare thing.
27) I apologize. Mike forgives me. He even lets Peter and me and some other musicians make a track that does get on US Metal volume 3. Peter was as good at guitar as I thought and got massive recognition for it in the guitar geek world at that time.
28) years go by and from time to time Mike and I speak, and, as is his right, he mentions that I lost the most valuable piece of music to ever come into his possession.
29) He doesn't have to remind me. I am keenly aware of it and racked with guilt.
30) As recently as 6 years ago, I am in SF and call him and we get together and he tells my son (who's about to go to college the next year) the story.
31) I am miserable again. I cannot believe he trusted me with this gift, and I lost it. And there's no way to make it right.
32) But then, last month, I happened to catch up with Mike. And I apologized once again. At 54, still feeling guilty and bad. And then Mike said, "Oh, I forgot to tell you. Turned out Yngwie had made a copy. I got my hands on it a few years ago."
33) The relief that washed over me...you cannot imagine. Anyway, I know this is a long way to go for this story. But I figure you are home and bored and not with family and it's xmas. So I might as well tell you a shaggy dog lost gift story. Hope it was mildly diverting.
34) Ask any questions. I'll answer.
