When it comes to how our community engage swith religious practices or celebrations that are not our own, it's important to not dismiss the impact that small deeds or small moments of principle have. The moment itself may be short, but the weight of that deed matters. (thread)
The shahada, the required statement of belief in Islam, doesn't take more than a few seconds to utter, but shifts a persons worldview, and completely changes their situation in their afterlife.
The formal nikkah/marriage process in Islam can easily be completed in a few moments, but we know that it is what creates a blessed union between two people vs. that same relationship being outside marriage and a cause for God being displeased.
There are many examples in Islam of statements that we utter that only require a handful of seconds, a brief intention in the blink of an eye - but that moment is so weighty with Allah that it effectively changes the quality of that person's experience and their life as a whole.
Decide wisely. Your faith feeds off of moments like this, and the future legacy of your family is carried through you.
Basically, to my Muslims: please don't celebrate Christmas.
There are exceptions for those who have families who celebrate, like those who converted, etc. But in Islam, while we have general rules and exceptions to those rules, we don't make rules out of exceptions.
