All these discussions about Tuchel’s time at PSG miss one important thing: he kept adapting the team’s shape and approach according to injuries and the physical conditions of his players.
I know that this is hard to accept, but there is no need to create a narrative for everything. Sometimes, things are that simple in life.
2018-19: experiments in his first few weeks until he found a great formula: 4-4-2 with Neymar and Mbappé on the left, Marquinhos-Verratti in midfield, Silva-Kimpembe behind.

We beat Liverpool, finish first in the group-stage and go on to play excellent football for a few months.
We lose then against Manchester without Neymar despite being the much superior team, thanks to three stupid mistakes, and we never recovered from that until the end of the season.
2019-20: Neymar and Mbappé can’t be healthy at the same time in the first two months, Tuchel comes up with a 4-3-3 with Marqui, Gueye and Verratti in midfield, focused on control, counter-pressing and defensive protection. It worked well, but offensively it was naturally meh.
Then when Neymar and Mbappé were finally fit again and Verratti and Gueye get injured, Tuchel switches back to the 4-4-2 and the team again resumes crushing everyone and play great football.
Then just before the 1st leg against, Dortmund, Marqui, Silva and Kimpembe get injured, Neymar misses a few games and returns with extra weight and completely out of rhythm, Tuchel then opt for a 3-4-3 focused on passive possession to limit the damage and protect his team
Admittedly, he got it wrong with the pressing structure, but PSG lose 1-2 and have a chance to qualify with a victory at the Parc.

The team arrives in the second leg with no Verratti, Silva nor Mbappé, and with a 75% fit Neymar, but we win 2-0 anyway.
Then came COVID-19, and the situation with injuries become even worse.

Still, 4 titles, a Champions League final that would have probably been won if we finished our chances, but that’s football.
2020-21: Well, this pretty much sums it up.
In short, what stagnated Tuchel’s PSG’s progress the most is not locker room issues or the coach’s work, but constant injuries to key players which forced us to change the team’s tactical shape every other week.

It’s impossible to progress in these conditions.
