By the time the next election comes round people will have lived with the reality of Brexit and Johnson’s deal for three years. Everyone will know someone who has lost their job, seen their business go under or had their retirement plans ripped up. (1/5)
We’ll all know about people who have been landed with big medical bills because they got sick on holiday and forgot to buy insurance, or huge mobile bills because they forgot to turn roaming off. (2/5)
And we’ll all have encountered the day-to-day inconveniences of higher prices, stuff we used to buy not being available, filling in customs forms at the Post Office before we can send a small parcel to family or friends, longer queues at the airport when we go on holiday. (3/5)
No doubt the Tories will try to blame it on someone else, but people aren’t that stupid. They will know who’s fault it is: the ones who lied to them for years about how awful life in the EU was and how much better it would be when we were free. (4/5)
As the song says, “you don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone.” We are about to find out. And Labour needs to relentless about making sure the liars and charlatans pay the price for it in 2024. (Ends)
