Stories and films that depict the terrible realities we face are important, yes, but sometimes people tend to think that these are the only stories that are needed right now...when in fact, they are not. The truth is, people need stories of kindness and hope, too.(Maybe a thread)
Because, sure, there are some really terrible true stories right now that need to be told, because some people are simply not aware of them, or are denying the truth of what is happening before them, and sometimes they are easier to understand through the lens of fiction. But--
--we can't stop there. We also need to empower people to action, to move to change things. Because yes, things are bad right now...but we have to make them better. And we CAN make it better. And if all the stories we're hearing are without hope--
--how can we achieve this? We'd just all be stuck in the same place, committing the same mistakes, allowing horrible people to do what they want, "because that's how the world is." But it doesn't have to be.
So there's a need, too, for stories that have happy endings, for wholesome and wonderful stories of people having fun adventures, finding good friends, and love in its many forms. Not all stories have to be "dark" and "edgy" to be excellent, or even socially relevant.
So please continue to write these stories, and make these films. Some people may say that these are trite and there are too many already, but that's also not true. There are still actually too few right now, and these are definitely needed, especially now in this terrible time.❤️
