2020 the lessons - on the third week of lock down I had 6000 chickens ready for slaughter my buyer closed his factory.
dilemma should I continue feeding them until I get a new buyer or slaughter them?where do I store them once slaughtered.
Remember the next batch were to be ready in a fortnight. That is when I began what’s up hawking. Some friends were so supportive “napenda hizi Kuku zako Kama Ngamia” bei yako ni sawa na hizi Kuku za hurlingham ndogo Utadhani “njiwa”
Then the negative vibes “kwani you are a chicken farmer? You believed that story that someone became a billionaire from hawking chickens.” Another one “ hiyo Ivy League yako yote na 15 years ya Bunge ulifikiria Kuku? Same guys talk about youth and entrepreneurship !!
As a mature entrepreneur I have stronger shock absorbers imagine that youth who you have not protected from market flooding by cheaper imports or not opened up export market because you saw no incentive to spend time with the international beef certification agent.
This is the problem of doing a job only for what it gives you and not taking responsibility for what you should give the job.On a happy note we no longer need the factory. My nephews who were helping “Aunty asinoki na hizi Kuku” are so busy with their new business. Alhamdulillahi
