Anyone who thinks Jiang Cheng can’t be diplomatic forgot about the time he neatly wrapped Wang/xian in his web where he gave them no reason not to divulge Wei Wuxian’s identity, and he did it so efficiently they wouldn’t have noticed they were getting trapped until he’d finished.
“He’s always angry” his anger is a manifestation of his trauma which comes out around Wei Wuxian, but it’s clearly not all of him, not if Yunmeng Jiang survived this long under his leadership. His barbs are carefully hidden under a veneer of cool diplomacy.
Jiang Cheng is a viper in the grass, hidden in plain sight and waiting until his target is lulled into a false sense of security before he strikes.
Also this is known as a thread of why I’m refusing to accept that Jiang Cheng is an emotionally stunted angry boy and that’s all. Just because anger is all he shows to Wei Wuxian doesn’t mean that’s all he is.
Not gonna lie, but the attitude Wei Wuxian cops from Jiang Cheng is entirely deserved, especially since after everything Wei Wuxian runs away and pretends nothing happened, which is a slap in the face to all he suffered for a decade.
Lan Wangji had it easy because Wei Wuxian never took the life of anyone he loved before he died, so he accepted Wei Wuxian back easily and can’t see why no one else can. He walks around with blinders on and gets angry when people don’t act as he does.
Which is what pisses me off about him. Everything Lan Wangji suffered was at the hands of the Wens, Jiang Cheng suffered at the hands of the Wens AND Wei Wuxian, but the last bit is what Lan Wangji constantly forgets on purpose.
And for as long as Wei Wuxian runs from his past instead of confronting it and apologising for the part in Jiang Cheng’s heartache, I’ll never believe he earned his happy ending. Because it is false. And he’d know it too.
