1)BASKETBALL CARDS- people asked my opinion, and its only that, my opinion and what trends I see based on my sales and my bidders and watching others. Vintage- Keep in mind cards prices don't always equate to playing ability or career stats. Many thing such as sizzle and fax bas
2) fan base effect popular cards. pre 1970 players Tier 1 Wilt and Russell and no one else. Tier 2(big drop off except for the Mikan rookie) Mikan, Jerry West, Oscar Roberston..and stop there. 1970s- early80s- tier 1(no order) Bird, Magic, Jabbar Erving- gigantic
3)drop off after that to anyone else, top of heap in next tier would probably me Marovich...for modern, 1984 and later.., and if you want international buyers on your cards, keep in mind especially for the Asian market, they do NOT buy cards or mem of players prior to JORDAN..
4) i repeat, in my experience, basketball did NOT exist prior to Michael Jordan for most international buyers (that includes Bird and Magic) the holy trinity IN ORDER Jordan, LeBron and Kobe
5) LeBron cards are the most valuable by nature of there being so many amazing limited print rookies of his versus the mass produced 1986 Fleer Jordan. The 1986 Fleer Jordan is without question the most desired basketball card in the world, there are a LOT of them, and there ...
6)a LOT of demand, incredible, amazing, off the charts backed up demand. If there was such a thing as a Jordan rookie Logoman or LP Chrome refractor it would sell for more than the highest priced T206 Wagner, but they do NOT exist...
7) Jordan 1990s rare inserts and early 2000s thru early exquisite years are the key cards for him (outside of rookie) next tier and here is where an argument will start, is Giannis, Curry and Durant. Giannis has an amazing international appeal on his cards even without a title...
(YET) people are buying for potential which is still increasing. I put Luka and Zion on their own tier, HIGH reward, and high risk....the 2 highest Beta basketball players card wise on the planet. Luka has less risk than Zion, and both have limitless potential in the NBA and Card
(9) I have never seen a hobby root more for 2 players than Luka and Zion, everyone is WILLING them to do well, and hopefully they both have long and healthy careers. to me, tier 1 (Jordan LeBron and Kobe) are the 'blue chips' of basketball
Finally, in terms of where I am coming from. Goldin Auctions , likely sold over $50 Million of BASKETBALL CARDS in 2020, and I believe has more international users in its database than most other auction houses have TOTAL users, so I have a good perspective on this one.
