Why you should watch Gintama (a thread)
1.) THE CHARACTERS

In my opinion, one of Gintama's most likable traits is the characters and how well-developed they are. Each and every one of them is unique, and have their own personality traits. Despite having such a huge cast, all of them are useful and become lovable.
2.) Comedy

Where do I start? Gintama is without a doubt the funniest series I have watched in my life, including TV shows. This anime is literally the funniest shit I have seen in my life, and has left me going from laughing tears of joy to sadness... which leads on to Number 3.
3.) The serious arcs

The thing that makes the serious arcs of Gintama so great is that the comedy eps allow you to become immersed to the world, and creates a strong attachment to the characters. So seeing the show shift from a comedic tone to a serious tone is honestly amazi
--.ing. Also, Gintama has without a doubt one of the greatest serious arcs I have seen from a Shonen anime (COUGH SHOGUN ARC COUGH) that will leave you in an emotional mess. The fights are beautifully orchestrated and well animated, with complex story arcs and development.
4.) Sakata Gintoki

Gintoki, the main protagonist of Gintama is honestly the best shonen protagonist of all time (IMO). The reason behind this is because of his back-story. I won't spoil much, but his mysterious past (which they tease a lot) will persuade you to watch more.
5.) The parodies

Gintama is filled with parodies, which is what many people really like about this anime. It parodies many other anime and manga titles as well as characters from both real life and anime/manga. One Piece, Bleach, Dragon Ball Z? If it exists, Gintama parodies it.
6.) Gintama is every genre

Gintama is literally for everyone lmao, Comedy? Shonen? Sci-Fi? Comedy? Parody? Slice of Life? Yeah, Gintama does it all, so why wouldn't you want to watch it? It does everything and good too. Well, except from certain genres...
7.) The build-up

Don’t go into Gintama expecting action-filled scenes and a complex storyline, those things will start once you've immersed yourself in the world and characters of the series. Benizakura Arc (Ep 58-63) is the first serious arc, and the build-up is worth it.
8.) Conclusion

I have given you pretty much all the reasons as to why you should watch this amazing series. But make sure to skip the first 2 EPS (filler) and trust me, don't drop the series. It has a slow start, but you'll eventually fall in love with the series.. WATCH IT NOW!
