The web did not turn 30 years old when I posted this 4 days ago. Anyone who clicked through the article will read that the web started in 1989. Why did I post it? Because I wanted to see how many people would retweet an innocuous post from a trusted source. Many did. https://twitter.com/caseorganic/status/1340747792654901249
Of the responses (as of this timestamp) there are almost 400 retweets, a handful of comments, and a thousand likes. Only two of them pointed out the date discrepancy; @edodusi and the venerable @ricmac.
@SueBrownawell noticed the discrepancy but did not tweet about it, for two reasons -- and I quote Sue -- "1) the info is trivia - not major consequences if wrong and 2) you and I aren't close"
Four days ago, the same link was posted to Hacker News, and it got a lot of attention. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=25485651 The attention was similar to the responses I got on Twitter. Regardless of the date discrepancy, the posts were about nostalgia and personal stories.
My favorite response was from @blueclock. It would have been funny (and unfortunate) if this happened.
And, because Twitter fluctuates, here is a timestamped screenshot of the tweet as of this moment (I've noticed that a few people are un-retweeting).
