Carrot casserole, one of many traditional Christmas foods. Finland is sort of exceptional in this, that we have practically an entire menu of Christmas foods that are only eaten during the season.
What Finnish Christmas dinner consists of:
-Ham is the most important thing. Turkey can also be used.
-Fish menu: pickled herring, and cold-smoked and heat-smoked salmon etc.
-Rosolli, salad made of beetroot, pickle, onion and carrot
-Casseroles: potato, carrot and rutabaga
For sweet stuff Finns eat gingerbread, confectionery, puff pastry prune pasties and glögi, mulled wine. The prune pasties are my favorite. They're the perfect mix of slightly salty pastry and sweet prune jam in the middle.
