Serious talk about religion tho. The atheist stance that every religion, in every circumstance, is oppressive and 'irrational' is incredibly harmful and - yes, also racist, as it's rooted in the idea that religious practices are just savage compared to Western science 1/?
Religion has been a fundamental part of human history and most of the time it were religious people that worked into advancing technology and science - think about the Islamic middle ages. Of course, religious extremists are a thing that needs to be addressed 2/?
I'm sure growing up atheist in an Evangelical household can be pretty unpleasant, and being atheist in a theocracy may straight up kills you. But so is being of a different religion from the 'right' one. And... let's not forget about atheist extremism 3/?
Communist governments who made atheism their 'state religion' commit just the same atrocities of theocracies around the world. Think about the muslim extermination camps in Xinjang. So, claiming that oppression is endemic to religions only is... disingenous 4/?
Plus, there's a peculiar brand of white atheism that is extremely racist. Racism is not just saying that Black people deserve to be killed by the police. It's also trying to push a secular agenda with disregard of religious minorities - think about what's happening in France! 5/?
Plus, it's pretty ironic that most atheists claim to despise religions but... approach to the philosophy with religious fervour. I've dared complain about Dawkins' stance and two atheists popped in my mentions flooding me with datas on why I was wrong. 6/?
The last time something similar happened, was when an Evangelical tried to convert me because I dared agree with the extreme far left position of Pope Francis about ending poverty (which apparently is... a no no for Evangelicals?)
So... yeah. Draw your conclusions. 7/?
I will also add that to my experience, the UAAR (prominent Italian atheist organisation) is not shy in voicing their vicious islamophobia. Honestly, the way many atheists, especially white atheists, feel compelled to attack religions-
-the way they define themselves as being 'anti-religion' is pretty problematic, because to many cultures religion is part of their heritage still, and it's not like we haven't witnessed atheist violence against religious minorities. So, yeah. Much to think about 8/8
