I have a new favorite au with ryan, wherein neku works the graveyard shift at a cemetery, and Joshua is persistently trying to convince him that he (and the others like him) is not merely a symptom of Neku's life-long psychological disorder.
Neku is your run of the mill ghost whisperer--but he has spent his life attributing his various encounters to schizophrenic hallucinations. That's what his therapist thinks, after all. And ghosts aren't real!
Neku considers himself un-spookable as a result--so why wouldn't he pounce on this super easy job that pays extra for overnight?!

--but ... his hallucinations have never been so insistent on being seen. If he doesn't make eye contact with the static-y specter that follows him, watches him, hovers near him, it'll go away. Or he can keep pretending, at least, that it doesn't have a mind of its own.
Joshua has seen cases such as Neku's, though. He had been such a case himself. His parents and peers had never believed him.
