Things are going to get better with the pandemic in 2021. The vaccine will reduce the pressure on medical staff and hospitals, you'll eventually begin being able to see vaccinated friends and loved ones, after you yrself are vaccinated, but very little will change w/gatherings.

Do not expect or plan to go to concerts in 2021. Do not expect or plan to go to conventions in 2021. Do not expect or plan to go to movie theaters in 2021. It is going to take most or all of the year for us to reach a point of broad vaccine uptake and availability.

Until we are at that point, large gatherings will remain just as potentially dangerous as they are right now. Until we are at that point, we must all continue to observe the same distancing and avoidance of large gatherings, especially indoors, that we are observing now.

I am sorry to be giving y'all the holiday present of this bummer news, but it is better that we all be planning now for a safe and survivable New Year. Especially, I am afraid, because for the first few months, it is going to get much worse before it gets better.
