(2/3) NRD can exclusively report that the NHL is shopping it’s TV rights to other entities in preparation for this move by NBC. The NHL has a streaming deal currently with Disney, and the league is said to still value the exposure network and cable TV that others can bring...
(3/3) it is to my understanding that while the NHL has not broken off talks with NBCUniversal, the league would prefer to maximize their traditional TV exposure in their next deal, and not put a significant slate of games behind a paywall.
