In high school, I was an athlete (football and baseball) and I was convinced that sports were more important than any other school program and athletes worked harder than anyone else in the school.
As a teacher, I have learned a few things: though athletes do work hard, theatre students may work harder. I was done with practice by 6-7pm, but our theatre students often didn't get home until even later. Now, my school profits more off of our plays than our games.
What I am trying to say is that it's probably about time that schools/communities promote, celebrate, recognize, and invest in the Arts as much as they do sports.
