In the book “Stellenbosch Mafia” it says Roux was quietly dipping into the Uni’s cash reserves for the rugby club - Maties wanted to pursue criminal charges but Roux was definitely protected by some. Oregan Hoskins was pushed out when he grew concerned about Roux’s misdeeds at Maties and in the end that’s why Hoskins was pushed out of SA Rugby.

Although Hoskins always backed him in public - in private he wanted to find out what Roux had done - this was the basis of him leaving SA Rugby - it was either Roux or Hoskins. Roux obviously had support far greater & in fairness is a good rugby administrator besides his misdeeds

Also it’s hard for Roux to deny he did nothing wrong because I think at every stage of litigation or arbitration (or whatever) the ruling has always been against him. He will say he didn’t benefit personally but it’s hard to argue that he wasn’t doing anything dodgy.
