My CLP secretary - an incredibly hard-working, decent and committed man - just resigned from @UKLabour. đŸ˜„
I feel so angry: the anti-democratic diktats from the top of the Labour bureaucracy made his position impossible. Way over half the party membership joined to support @jeremycorbyn, yet all and any democratic debate on #Corbyn's kangaroo court suspension was banned.
This exodus of the best left members who’ve done so much for Labour is by no means an accident, but rather an intentional, planned and methodically-executed factional purge by David Evans and @Keir_Starmer.
The mass left membership since the Corbyn surge has always been a huge headache for the Labour Right, and purges and a wave of disgusted resignations were the only way they could ever hope to regain control and repress any chance of a new upsurge of democracy within #Labour.
That this is all happening under the aegis of a leader, @Keir_Starmer, who stood on a platform of 'unity', without any noticeable challenge from the media, is as Orwellian & dystopian as anything else we've come to expect in recent years.
But this is hardly unexpected: The right have been open about their intentions to force out thousands and thousands. For the careerist, losing elections is insignificant to the threat of losing control of the career vehicle into which many have invested so much of their ego.
And the media have proven a complete lack of interest in any balanced or even factual reporting about internal Labour democracy many times over.
But worse than angry, I feel powerless: our left structures & organisations, in spite of all their platitudes about grassroots democracy, have so far failed to organise any genuine fight back from below.

It's only 'stay & fight' if you actually *fight*.
That means contesting real political power to stop the Kafkaesque crackdown.

Instead, whether from @PeoplesMomentum or the @socialistcam, we got pleas for ‘unity’ and rationality, petitions, agonised tweets, YouTube events and Zoom panels with moderated comments.
What we DIDN'T get:

A democratic debate on strategy with binding OMOV membership votes (in spite of the #ForwardMomentum pledges)

A campaign to challenge for every candidacy from the left.

#EvansOut or #StarmerOut campagins or protests.
