No matter how you look at it, Nigerian men work so hard.
They are groomed to earn a lot of money to take care of everyone — wife, siblings, parents, in-laws etc. what happens when they can’t meet up? They sink into depression but many don’t see this.
Foreign men don’t deal with this type of pressure. Their money is their money. If they stretch it, then it would just be for them and their small family. There’s nothing like sending money to parents and in-laws. It’s not even up for a debate.
Even Nigerian women who married foreign men knows they can’t stress their husbands with this type of responsibility. Their wives end up doing that. But our men do it so effortlessly because it’s our culture.
The dreams of a 25 yr old Nigerian lady can’t be to earn money and take care of the aforementioned, but ask an 18 year-old boy what he truly wants, and he will include earning money for this or that.

An average Nigerian man considers himself a failure if he can’t keep his family
financially afloat. Even the ones that make money through nefarious means has this as their main goal.

Christmas is here and many will empty their savings to keep everyone happy. Sigh.

Gentlemen, go easy on yourselves. Problems no dey finish.
As you hustle for others, remember to take care of yourself. Buy the things you like. Eat what you crave and visit places you want to. Don’t let anyone blackmail you into emptying your pockets. If it was easy to earn money in Nigeria, everyone would be swimming in it.
Footnote:

Just look at a marriage list in Nigeria and you will understand what type of responsibility lies ahead for a man. There’s no place in that list that contains what a woman or her family are to bring.
No matter how independent or educated a Nigerian woman is, she will never be asked to contribute to her marriage list. If she wants to assist her husband behind closed doors, that’s up to her. Let’s stick to facts!
The general notion is, “if a man can’t fulfill the list, how can he convince us that he will TAKE CARE of his family and in-laws?”.

So when it comes to financial responsibility, men don’t get a pass. Whether you get job or not, is not anyone’s problem.
