Let's be clear: This is a decision which will restrict academia to the privileged, and well-off; more than it is right now. https://twitter.com/LiveLawIndia/status/1342054025353564161
Who IS research for, is a question which is long-time coming in academia. Especially in India.

You study in a foreign university. But the people with whom you spend months in India doing fieldwork can never afford to buy the exorbitant journals where your research is published.
The question of accessibility of crucial research to the public is again, a far-off one. Even if the research is written in a manner which is not dense, it's not widely published. And no one can be expected to spend 15k to read about digital media in India.
We must ask questions on accessibility in academia. Who is allowed to research? At what cost? Who is reading the research? Is it a closed-off, impermeable and exclusionary system?
