After sundarar let's see life of Shri manikkavasagar.he was born in thiruvadvoor.his parents name were sampudhachariar and sivagnavathiar. at age 16 he was well learned and brilliant hence king arimardhana pandhya made him his minister.gave him title thenavan brahmaraya

Under his ministry Kingdom was flourished.but his mind always yearned for Shiva Grace .once king ordered to buy best horses and gave him huge amount.he while reaching thiruperunthurai saw yogi sitting under tree.he was none other than Shiva himself.

He gave him Deeksha and with his guidance he becomes enlightened.then Shiva ordered him to build a temple and vanished.he sang thiruvasagam. he used all money to built thiruavudaiyar temple.king sent messenger to see why he not returned with horses.manikkavasagar prayed to shiva.

Shiva assured him help.he in disguise went to king and said horses will arrive in aani month mula nakshatra.till before day no horses came.he ordered manikkavasagar arrest.that time Shiva turned all foxes to horses and sent to king. kiñg release him.

But she should give him a dish called puttu. she happily agreed. shiva went to construct site and slept there.seeing this furious king hit him with stick.that beating was fell on everyone in universe including king. king realised his foul and apologies to him.shiva vanished

Shiva ordered him to compile his songs. as a brahmin Shiva himself came wrote down all his songs placed his seal and disappeared. When Dikshitars of Chidambaram asked meaning of song he said Shiva is meaning and purpose of song and merged with divine light
