Folks. I'm starting to get the sense that Donald Trump was never all that interested in public service. It's just a hunch. Maybe I'll be proven wrong.
Crazy idea, but hear me out. What if Donald Trump ran for President not because he actually cared about or knew anything about politics or America, but because it was the next logical step for his brand?
And what if 40 years of cynical anti-government propaganda produced tens of millions of people who thought politics was so meaningless and stupid that they'd vote for any clown w/ name recognition who was shameless enough to say shocking shit that confirmed their priors?
And, you're not going to believe this, but what if such anti-government cynicism benefitted wealthy and powerful people who paid lots of $$$ to fund such cynicism, not because they believed it, but because it enabled them to hoard the vast majority of the nation's wealth?
And, stop me if you've heard this one before, what if those wealthy and powerful people were able to identify and reward a segment of especially craven politicians who they knew could a) communicate their talking points glibly and b) reliably do their bidding for a modest price?
