This is absolutely the correct response.
Just a walking parody of the left.
Robinson’s tweet isn’t just irritating because he wants someone to pay off his Yale loans (whatever). He also clearly has no idea how big a deal even 10k of loan forgiveness would be to the majority of borrowers, presumably because he’s surrounded by elite college grads.
Among direct loan borrowers, 32% of loan balances are $10K or less. 53% are 20k or less. Even a "half step" like Biden's—if you want to call it that—wipes out a large number of balances.
But of course, all the people who would be helped immensely by a move like that—a lot of whom are lower-middle-class—would get drowned out by complaints on this site from people who took on six figures of debt at Yale they didn't have a plan to pay back.
Anyway, since this thread is taking off a little, here's what I wrote a while back about why Biden probably should try student debt forgiveness. Can't get put off by an idea's worst proponents. https://slate.com/business/2020/11/biden-student-debt-forgiveness.html
Alright everyone, I'm done talking about student debt for the day. Feel free to keep screaming at me and each other (especially each other). But I'm muting the thread.
