I hate to break it to y’all who seem to completely ignore certain things in canon but Izuku 100% has trauma from Bakugo’s bullying.

He wouldn’t be shouting this as a war cry if Bakugo hadn’t given him the negative name in the first place - and if Ochako hadn’t changed it

Doesn’t invalidate any ship or shit - just saying that Izuku still had lingering trauma from 14 years of abuse from his only “friend” - and it’s enough for him to be thinking of the old Deku meaning that Bakugo gave it

And it’s tragic cuz Bakugo realizes this as it happens

Which is what makes the entire growth, dynamic, and aspects of their relationship throughout the story so great - Bakugo has been slowly realizing that this is his fault and he wants to make up for it

He feels that responsibility for Deku’s nature

That’s the point of growth and development
