#CovidVaccine thread.
@rameshlaus @sumanthraman @priyankathiru @dhanyarajendran
US,UK, Canada had started their COVID vaccinations as expected .Probably our Government may get the vaccinations by January and reach private market by March for public.
First ,frontline workers&
relatives will be priorities followed by old age People with co-morbidities like diabetes, transplant and cancer patients.
Then will be healthy adults, teenagers, children. Those who has recovered from COVID may need as last priority but if
they lack antibody or probably booster dose alone may be sufficient but if someone had donor plasma that contains anti Covid-19 antibodies it may suppress the immune response to the vaccine.
We will need 2 doses totally 21 /28 apart.
One dose will give you only partial protection of may be 60-80% and will not last long enough. For complete protection you must take two doses at recommended intervals but in case, second dose is missed, u need not repeat the first dose again rather take d second dose ASAP
In most of the vaccines it will be the same dose given twice but
Sputnik- V vaccine n Oxford vaccine may ve different doses on first and second injections.
Regarding vaccination for pregnant women, the safety features are not established. So will have to wait for further trials
Almost All vaccines are offering equal efficacy although local reactions may be different and not much long term effects.
Indian manufactured vaccines will be more suitable for our population as they are cheaper and can be kept at 2-8 degree Celsius.
The mRNA vaccines require a storing temp of -70 (Pfizer) and -20 (Moderna) which may be difficult to maintain in summer months in India
Best protection starts 15 days after second dose.
since It is a new virus,it might not be completely eradicated
but we might see different vaccines every year according to changing strains for next few years atleast ( my guess) and the disease may be less prevalent over months once everyone starts getting vaccinated till atleast 70% of Indian population.( heard immunity)

The side effects
reported by the trial population are mostly mild Covid like symptoms like fever and fatigue, local site pain etc. Generally, all vaccines are safe.
Still a lot of reasearch has been going on for newer vaccines. Atleast another 100 vaccines might hit d market including the nasal
Spray vaccine. but since it’s a live vaccines, trials might take longer time.
Those who are doubtful about the vaccinations n their long time effect, you may actually help others by skipping your vaccination.(but you ll be protected if 70% of Indian population takes it)
Use d mask till then...
