1/ Friends, by now you have likely seen the news that Paul Manafort and Roger Stone have been pardoned, along with other crooks and cowards. I just want to share some thoughts, particularly for those of you who put so much effort into making sure they were held to account.
2/ These two men are traitors. They spent decades working against democracy and the rule of law only to come together in 2016 to collaborate with Russian intelligence to elect Donald Trump.
3/ To all of you who worked so hard for so many years to hold them to account- to demand an independent investigation, to defend the Mueller investigation from political interference, to denounce the Attorney General who swept its findings under the rug...
4/ ... and ultimately to demand the impeachment of a President willing to betray his country to ensure his own political future- I know this is sickening. Justice has not been served. These men are, indeed, above the law.
5/ But I do not believe our effort was in vain. The historical record is clear. The decay is exposed. The American people passed judgment on Donald Trump, and rejected his corruption. And we remain, more expert and organized on these issues than before.
6/ Let's remember this night in a few months, and check in- is the Biden administration doing everything it can to hold Donald Trump, his family, his cronies and the Republican party to account for the crime spree of the last for years?
7/ Is Congress advancing a pro-democracy agenda? Are we finding and prosecuting the next Manafort, the next Stone now, before they get close to power?
8/ Thank you for joining this fight and for seeing it through. It isn't over- not tonight, and not on January 20th.
