The most fucking tone deaf article ever. The author starts out by praising the CEO of TikTok/Bytedance. Someone should have told the author TikTok is/was built completely on unlicensed music. Only reason I haven’t sued is cause it’s criminal RICO 1/x https://hbr.org/2020/12/the-creator-economy-needs-a-middle-class
I try not to indulge my anti-elitist tendencies. But what kind of fucking bubble do you have to live in, to write an article about the creative middle class, by praising a CEO that is literally ripping off creators. I also hereby renew my pledge to never hire anyone from @Harvard
Also. Everyone realizes that TikTok appears to fake views in order to fool users into making more content. Especially the first video you make in TikTok seems to be subject to some sort of algorithmic boost or plane old fraudulent view count. @FTC needs to look at this.
The article itself: It has the feel of an article written by someone who has really thought about the problem. While missing the most obvious fucking problem: platforms do everything they can to not pay creators. How about we start from that and go from there?
So here’s my ten strategies creating a creator middle class. I know my degrees are from UCSC and UGA. But here goes.
1. Fuck you. Pay me.
2. Fuck you. Pay me.
3. Fuck You. Pay me.
4. Fuck You. Pay me.
5. Fuck you. Pay me.
6. Fuck you. Pay me.
7. Fuck You. Pay me.
8. Fuck you. Pay me.
9. Fuck you. Pay me.
10. Fuck you. Pay me.
I’d be willing to with with @HarvardBiz to implement my 10 point plan. Maybe Harvard will publish one of those case studies on my Fuck You Pay Me 10 point plan. Perhaps establish a Fuck You Pay Me stakeholder committee to establish the best ways to implement Fuck You Pay Me
I’m open to sharing the credit with @HarvardBiz if they could help me come up with a great implementation plan. Get a global brain trust on this. Like 20 @TedTalksFPL veterans and someone from Goldman Sachs. A catchy hashtag #HBRFuckYouPayMe2026
Maybe @HarvardBiz can get me into Davos. We can get Bono, Steve Mnuchin and Bill Gates to present a Fuck You Pay Me panel. Propose Corporations buy Fuck You Pay Me usury offsets. Propose a sort of Fuck You Pay Me cap and trade.
Because the people we really need to listen to right now, the voices that should be elevated are the credentialed bubble dwellers who just figured out in 2020 that digital platforms are fucking over the middle class. #HBRFuckYouPayMeDavosGSBono2026!!!!
