I know it sounds crazy but in the last year since I started actively using Twitter, it’s changed my life.

So, as we get closer to the end of 2020, here’s how I’ve used it and why it’s my favorite social network:
1/ Meeting people.

I’ve probably met 500+ people via DMs and 25-50 of these people IRL
Sometimes we’ll meet for work related stuff, other times it’s to hang (like when I tweeted about going camping a couple of months ago)

And compared to IG or Facebook, I feel like it’s much easier to find people who share similar interests and connect with them
2/ Meeting investors

Similar to the above but it’s not an exaggeration when I say that I’ve raised millions just from Twitter connections
A fun story here: back in February of this year @angusdav DMd me to ask what I was up to at the time.

A week later we grabbed donuts at a small shop in NYC and 2 days after that he committed to our pre seed round!
3/ Learning random shit

I sometimes can’t believe that Twitter is free with how much knowledge people share on here.
People like @shreyas will drop an incredible tweet storm on product management on a random Tuesday and @arfrank will decide to open source all of banking

All stuff you’d never learn in school
4/ Engaging with anyone

Most of you know I have very little filter but that’s what I love about Twitter - you can say whatever you want to whoever you want as it’s an entirely open social network
On Instagram you’re following for the social highlights, on LinkedIn it’s for the career highlights, but on Twitter you get the unfiltered stream of thoughts
5/ Owned distribution channel

When I started my first company I didn’t have an audience to lean on for distribution so was stuck doing a lot of paid or building SEO which takes a long time
Now, I can tweet something and if people who follow me find it exciting it’ll drive anywhere from a couple hundred to a coupe thousand sign ups

Building in public is amazing and I think everyone should do it
Twitter still has its faults - searching DMs is the most neglected feature ever and I don’t love engaging with troll Twitter accounts - but overall it’s amazing.

This last year of tweeting and shitposting has been a lot of fun 💩
Thinking about some other things that have happened from Twitter:
- Helped early stage employees negotiate their comp packages
- Connected people with open roles at companies
- Made intros that led to successful fundraises

Where else does this exist?!?
