Let's start with Number 5: Martha Jones from Doctor Who. Martha is beautiful, intelligent, educated, adventurous, and caring. Literally, her season with the Tenth Doctor had the best fucking episodes: Blink, The Sound of Drums, The Last of the Time Lords 1/?
She deserved the world, but she was a Black female companion that came after Rose, Ten's previous companion & LI. Unnecessarily, the show writers decided to make her catch feelings for a lovesick Ten who was still thirsting after Rose who was in an alt dimension 2/?
Needless to say, she wasn't a fan favorite. The fandom back then viewed her as desperate, unworthy, & trying to steal Ten away from Rose. The same fandom that disrespected her was the same fandom that cheered for Ten & a random white chick in The Family of Blood plotline 3/?
A plotline in which Martha, an educated modern woman, pretended to be a Black maid at a white boarding school for boys in a racist time period where she's treated as trash by everyone ... for why? That two-parter was so goddamn disrespectful and Ten WAS SO RUDE TO HER 4/?
The excuse was "oh but he lost his memory and he was just doing what was common to that time." I DON'T GIVE A FUCK. It's a goddamn sci-fi show. While Martha is treated like a 5th-hand citizen, Ten's basic white LI is disrespectful to Martha 5/?
Not only does Martha have to pretend to be a maid during to racist ass people. She has to also protect a memory-wiped Ten from murderous aliens AND protect his memories ALL THE WHILE she's watching a man she loves fall in love with someone else. 6/?
And she gets blamed for having to give him back his memories and take away his chance at being in love. Afterwards, everything goes back to normal. His treatment of her and his LI's treatment of her is never addressed. And she goes back to pining after him. 7/?
This plotline was so fucking disrespectful and ya'll can't tell me different. Now, onto Number 4! 8/8
