The issue is we have so many people, United fans included, desperate to have their opinion of Ole proven right. Moving up to third last season, in a great position in the league this season, and in our first semi-final. He may not be world class but he's "good enough".
His record in Norway, winning the first league titles Molde had ever won, is dismissed, and I agree it's not the measure you would expect for one of the biggest clubs in the world. People talk about Cardiff too. But what Ole has done at United is certainly "good enough".
He came in to a team that was spiralling downwards and won game after game. Became the first manager to oversee a 2-0 home defeat in the European Cup to progress, against one of Europe's best sides. Went from 6th to 3rd in his second season. And our position now is good.
He's recruited well enough, the players seemingly love him, there's a positive atmosphere about the club that we haven't seen post-Fergie, and we've won SO many big games. People were arguing there had been no progress but that's a silly stance at this point.
Again, that doesn't mean this will have a happy ending. It doesn't mean that Ole is world-class or would be sought after by other top clubs. But then he doesn't have the ties to other top clubs that he has here. I'm made up for him and will enjoy this for as long as it lasts.
What we do know is that the fawning over the likes of Arteta, Bielsa and Lampard in comparison to the constant derision of Solskjaer was misplaced. He's holding his own and in balance, over the past 2 years, has done a good job. Gwan Ole lad.
Over the past two years, there have been so many games I've actively enjoyed watching. I could probably count on one hand how many games post-Fergie and pre-Ole that applies to. Now the focus has to be on winning a trophy.
There are people who are weirdly more critical of our homegrown academy lads than some expensive signing from abroad. Likewise, they beat down on Ole more than they would a big name who hadn't won us the European Cup before. I'll always give more time to people who love the club.
