these types of threats since COVID began. Moreover, my legislative colleagues of color in both State houses have been subjected to horrifying racism and violent and racist threats - more threats than my white colleagues and more graphically violent.

This must STOP!

Over the last 10 months, State officials have received an extraordinary amount of email about COVID, unemployment, the economy & the election. Often people need help & we are happy to do everything we can to help them. That’s my job and I love it. 3/
Sometimes the emails are angry & even rude, but that’s okay. Frankly, everyone has a right to their opinions and feelings. It’s a frustrating time. I understand that and I appreciate constituent emails/calls and I always take them into consideration. 4/
Even when I completely disagree with the content, I truly appreciate the outreach. However, there is a difference between expressing your opinion & making a threat. Threats of violence, whether vague or direct, are completely unacceptable. My staff takes them very seriously.5/
I take these threats very seriously. The email we received today, is from a person we’ve communicated with & tried to help numerous times over the last few years. We know this person. Honestly, I am appalled & angry. Threatening elected officials, threatening government staff -
Threatening people who are doing their jobs is not okay. Leaving racist messages and sending racist emails to my colleagues - is NOT okay. It is not acceptable. It is disgusting and all elected officials - frankly all people should disavow it. Now.

Know that if you send a threat to my office, we will report it to the proper authorities.

Immediately.
