some takeaways:
-secret handshakes and such as a barrier to entryists and freeloaders
-lodges would hire a doctor and a couple nurses to be on retainer for members
-the Grange (farmer's order) would have an officer dedicated to reporting on what the legislature was doing
In our distributed, separate online communities, we have something like secret handshakes with our evolving slang and meme usage, so we've got almost-security just with that, more so imo with the occasional irl meetups that we do (I am biased for this sort of thing obviously)
There are plenty of mutual aid orgs helping with healthcare and legal assistance and such out there, but I'm not sure many of us are actually involved with, say, Christian healthcare co-ops. It's prob beyond the power of the (nocoin) NEETs here to keep, say, a lawyer on retainer-
-but a lot of us have careers and families, and could do this pretty easily with a bit of willpower* and could get scholarships to the worthy poor. Legal aid can go remote like healthcare can't.

*I'm not responsible for damages to friendship caused by involving money with it
The concept of the mutual aid organization running, in effect, its own journalism is most enticing. Imagine giving your fav. NEET a little travel allowance to go to a state capitol and tell you what's going on, or even to events/marches/protests.
The difference between an ad agency, an intelligence agency, and a newspaper is a matter of degree.
It is my hope that you all can organize within your GCs and local friend networks to protect yourselves and your children. With a little creativity and prayer I'm sure online mutual aid groups can overcome distance and do things only they can do.
