A word about "unreachable voters." (Okay. Many words. I think this will become a thread.)

That young adult living at home who is registered to vote but hasn't yet? We write #PostcardsToVoters to their address.

The infrequent, low propensity, and irregular voters?

If they're Democrats, we write to them, too.

How about the newly-registered Democrats who haven't even voted yet? Yes, they also receive fun, friendly, fully-handwritten election reminders from our volunteers.

Why do we write to such an expanded universe of voters?
/3

For one, we can. We have the capacity thanks to the amazing 120k+ volunteers across the country in every state. The average number of postcards written per volunteer per campaign is still 15.

15 postcards at 35-cents (soon to be 36) is not a burden on the budget or time
/4

Reason #2: how do we ever expect to strengthen the habit of voting if we regularly exclude infrequent voters?

It is a standard, accepted, and reasonable practice for campaigns to narrow their list of target voters out of necessity. They rarely have enough volunteers...
/5

...money, or time to give a quality contact to each and every Democratic voter. So, they narrow it based on past voting frequency.

And the next campaign does the same thing.

And so does the one after that.

Until we get asked to help. Then, we beg the campaign to give...
/6

...us every single Democratic voters' address. (We're happy to prioritize the list and write the addresses they want first. But, we nearly always finish every list.)

Reason #3: Connecting with low turnout Dem voters with an authentic, grassroots, volunteer-written...
/7

...postcard can have ripple effects beyond an election date and outcome. Yes, we write to help our candidates win. But, we also know that postcards have prompted voters to donate, to volunteer, to reach out to their local Dem club(s) and party offices.

Leave no Dem voter...
/8

...behind should be our motto. A vote is a vote is a vote.

And in tight races, Special elections, runoffs, and down ballot "sleepy" municipal elections can be decided by a boost among the forgotten voters.

They're not unreachable technically. But they've been out of reach.
/9

Campaigns are not to blame. They have limited resources. So, we're here to help when asked. And you, the #PostcardsToVoters volunteer, you're the fuel in this machine.

When you ask for 5 or 10 addresses at a minimum for each and every campaign, you demonstrate our capacity.
/10

You remember that number of 120k+ volunteer writers? Well, they ain't all writing every month, I can tell you that. (grin)

Fortunately, somewhere around 25k of you *ARE* writing monthly. And that's a sizeable number.

You write for lists large and small. Far and near.
