this is a great question!! as far as cleansing a new deck goes, there are a number of ways- i personally prefer smoke cleansing (incense, herbs, etc.) however you also can cleanse through sound by knocking on the deck a few times, and those are def my preferred methods — https://twitter.com/fadedskittles_/status/1341513481661472769
of cleansing for tarot decks at least. as far as connecting with the deck, i found this tarot spread a while back and thought it was so great and i think it’s a great way to connect on a personal level with a new deck!💓
so then as for learning/memorizing the meaning of the cards ... i would definitely suggest referencing the booklet that comes with the deck (if it comes with one, def try to get one w a booklet for your first deck if you can!) and honestly in the beginning i would just shuffle —
my cards & look at what came out ... when i was first starting trust me cards would come out and it didn’t mean SHIT to me lmao i would look at that shit like
so i would look up the meaning of each card in the booklet, and then also use google (specifically Biddy Tarot and The Tarot Guide, which were generally near the top of the search results for me- i would just google the name of the card), and i would just read through it and —
trust me i did this more than once for each card in the deck... as u can prob imagine it’s not just once u read the description and it sticks lol this was an ongoing practice. other resources that have been SOO helpful for me are these two apps, Labyrinthos & Golden Thread Tarot!
Labyrinthos even has quizzes n stuff to help with learning tarot and is just overall sooo helpful & they use keywords which are really helpful in kinda memorizing and understanding the overall gist of the cards. you can also do tarot spreads w the meaning of the cards w this app!
Golden Thread Tarot is for daily tarot cards and they use similar short descriptions & keywords as Labyrinthos which i thought was super helpful bc it’s also a great way to connect w tarot on a personal level while also learning the meaning of the cards in a more effortless way!
however i also leaned heavily on other tarot readers/readings for help with learning the meaning of the cards... soaking up the knowledge & wisdom of other readers is underrated in the art of learning tarot because you’re also taking in their personal experience w the cards &
expanding your own understanding of the different ways to read each card! it brings in new perspectives for sure. so when i watched readings, i would pay mind to what cards were coming up and how the reader interpreted them! i think that’s pretty much it, i hope this helps!!💓🦋
