Brandon Roy 2008-09 Season Thread
In the 08-09 season, Brandon Roy had established himself as one of the best Shooting Guards in the league putting up these numbers in the Regular Season

22.6 PPG 4.7 RPG 5.1 APG 1.1 SPG
48.0 FG% 37.7 3p% 82.4 FT%
Roy would finish the season 3rd in scoring and 3rd in Assists per game among shooting guards that season

Only Wade and Kobe scored more and only Wade and Joe Johnson had more APG than Roy

Roy was only in his 3rd season
Roy was available for pretty much the entire year playing 78 out of the 82 games for Portland.

The Blazers finished the season 54-28

When Roy played they were 52-26 and when he didn't they were 2-2
Roy's Blazers would finish as the 4th seed though their record would be tied for 2nd best in the league with the Spurs and the Nuggets at 54-28

Only the 65 win Lakers had a better record than Portland in the West that season.
Roy would get selected to his 2nd All-Star game where he played well putting up 14 Points 5 Rebounds 5 Assists

He'd also finish the season by making All-NBA 2nd team
Roy was one of the clutchest players in the league too

4th Quarter Scoring
7.0 PPG 50.5 FG% 44.3 3p% 85.6 FT%

Clutch Scoring (Game within 5 with under 5 mins to go)

Totals
149 PTS 47/99 FG 3/16 3p 52/57 FT

Avg
3.8 PPG 47.5 FG% 18.8 3p% 91.2 FT%
On 6th November 2008, Brandon Roy would hit this ridiculous 3 point shot to beat the Rockets at the buzzer
Roy would have another game winner later that season when on 8th February 2009 he made this tough layup to beat the Knicks
That season Brandon Roy also set his career high in scoring with his only 50 point game of his entire career. On 18th December 2008, Brandon Roy would score 52 Points on 14/27 Shooting 5/7 from and 19/21 from the line in a win against the Phoenix Suns.
Roy's Home vs Road splits that season

At Home
23.7 PPG 4.8 RPG 5.6 APG 1.2 SPG
50.1 FG% 38.4 3p% 84.6 FT%
32-6 Record

On Road
21.6 PPG 4.7 RPG 4.7 APG 1.0 SPG
46.0 FG% 37.0 3p% 80.3 FT%
20-20 Record
In his first Playoff series of his career, Brandon Roy would lead his Blazers to a matchup against the more experienced Houston Rockets
Roy balled out in the Playoffs, he put up these numbers

26.7 PPG 4.8 RPG 2.8 APG 1.3 SPG 1.2 BPG
45.9 F% 47.1 3p% 87.0 FT%

However, Portland would lose the series in 6 Games
Roy's assists went down, but his scoring improved and his efficiency was great. Roy scored at least 20 points in 5 of the 6 games

Also gotta remember the fact that he had to go against Ron Artest and Shane Battier and still cooked them
Roy's best game of the 2009 Playoffs would come in Game 2. After a 27 point loss in Game 1, Roy would score 42 Points to lead Portland to a tough Game 2 win to tie the series
Despite losing the series, Roy's play was very promising. He was only in his 3rd season and already cooking some of the best defenders in the league in the Playoffs.
A year later even Kobe Bryant admitted that Roy was the hardest player to guard in the Western Conference
Obviously as we know after the 08-09 Season, Roy would only have one more All-Star season the following year and by the end of 2010-11 he retired after a knee condition that forced him too

He tried to comeback in 2012-13 but only played 5 games and would retire for good
08-09 Season was the peak of Roy's career. After Wade and Kobe, he was the best Shooting Guard in the league and was on course for a hall of fame career.

No doubt if Roy's knees didn't let him down he would've had Portland in title contention for years to come
When you have Kobe Bryant tell the people that you're the toughest guy to guard in one of the toughest conferences ever that should really tell you how good he was
