So, how was my experience of dealing with COVID that doesn’t seem to go nowhere anytime soon? (Thread)
First and foremost, like most diseases, COVID is something you have to fight mentally first than physically. Yes, immunity plays an absolutely critical role but more than that, all the stuff we have read / consumed about COVID really psyches you out the moment it hits you.
For example : Oh you got COVID, you will die. No, that’s absolute bullshit. This thought process needs to change. The more worrisome part is that this thing is contagious and you have to extra careful to not to pass it on others.
Now, in terms of treatment, it is fairly simple - drips, medications and if COVID has affected your lungs (like it did mine and that too real bad - thanks to a pre-existing Bronchitis and Obesity), it will definitely hit you hard - and that’s when it kind of gets tricky.
When it affects your lungs, the oxygen levels go drastically down, you face difficulty in simple breathing and that’s when paranoia hits you and everyone around you. I was straightaway admitted to ICU at 2:00 A.M where my body consumed 26 Kgs oxygen in next 24 hours.
The situation kind of remained like this for next 2 days. Lots of oxygen, masks, nebulisers, breathing equipments. You’re scared as shit but trust the doctors and front-line workers around you. They know their shit - listen to what they are saying and making you do.
Massive respect for hospital staff, attendants, nurses etc. for both me & my parents (yes they went through COVID too), they’re available 24x7. They will check on you 20 times a day, ensure you get food, meds on time & maintain sanitisation (room + washroom) of the highest order
Slowly, with all this effort, your oxygen levels will get restored. It takes 3-4 days (could take more - Mine took 4 days) and then slowly, they ask you to breathe without oxygen support. You HAVE to make an effort - that’s where your brain must kick-in.
This is also the time, when your body starts recovering from all the trauma and there is a sudden realisation that - you’re isolated in a room until you get better and test negative for COVID which takes time. Which is where again, your mind has to work more than your body.
Staying in isolation with minimum possible human contact is what makes COVID scary. Trust me. Yes, you will have your phone, Internet, video calls with friends/family etc. but being “isolated” is what keeps playing in your head all the fucking time.
You will think about all sorts of positive & negative things. The thing that you think about the most is - what if, I had died of COVID (trust me, this question appears a lot in head) not because you’d have died because we’ll have consumed so fucking much negative stuff about it.
For me, what kept me going through isolation (still is), I read a lot & slept a lot. I read all sorts of positive stuff and didn’t read much about COVID and how it is getting worse. You must cling on to some sort of positivity and thrive on it during isolation. It will help.
Your friends, family, spouse, colleagues cannot be with you on calls throughout the day. Sooner you realise, better it is. Have a routine to follow (if possible) but from what I can tell you, your sleep cycle will definitely go for a toss.
So, that was COVID for me. Scary, yes but I feel, I will come out to be mentally much more stronger from this.

I hope & wish, no one go throughs this but in case you or anyone you know does, try not to scare them that they will die. Give them mental strength and positivity.
It will help them both at mental and physical levels and will help them fight this disease in a much stronger way. 🙏🏻
