Here's some glossy, wet holly and ivy , taken on #HampsteadHeath today after I went for a swim. Would you like a story of festive cheer to go with it? I promise it will warm the cockles of your heart. Whilst I was walking in the woods, I got a WhatsApp from my friend Helen.
This is Helen. She is an old schoolfriend who I have been outdoor swimming with regularly since the Summer. About 20 months ago her son Luke was killed in an accident. We were planning to carry on as long as it was fun. No pressure, nothing to prove, getting through.
But, a couple of days before what would have been Luke's 16 birthday, Helen suggested #16SwimsInMemoryOfLukeHobson in support of @StMungos . Luke had been planning to do a sleepout for them before he died. And I agreed to join her. A good cause & a good way to remember him
Helen swims in a wetsuit - it is the first year coldwater swimming for both of us. Alongside some tears where she had snagged her nails, it looked like the shoulders on her suit were perishing a bit. So she sent a photo to the manufacturers @Zone3official to ask for help
They asked her to send the suit in so they could assess it. Fair enough. Helen asked if she could rent a suit in the meantime, so she could carry on with the challenge. When she explained, those lovely people changed their minds and offered her an immediate replacement
Not just a replacement though - an upgrade, because her model was out of stock.
Thank you for your kindness @Zone3official - you made us cry and you made us very happy.
Have a great festive season.
Thanks also to the lovely lifeguards @CityCorpHeath https://www.justgiving.com/team/teamHJ
