Our normal Santa visit was cancelled this year due to COVID so we had to go a little out of the way in order for the kids to see Santa and make their requests.
Consequently, we ended up having a little Cabela’s Christmas...
If, like me, you aren’t aware of Cabela’s, it’s a sporting goods store. When you pull up the first image you see is a giant statue outside of two bears fighting.
The “revenant” aesthetic remains consistent as you enter. They’ve set up elaborate taxidermy displays depicting the harsh reality of the natural world.
After wandering past a few killing fields and discounted gun safes, we arrived at Santa’s mobile workshop. Santa is guarded by nutcrackers at attention and also a plexiglass wall and face shield. In the at risk population, evidently. Or perhaps he’s an asymptomatic carrier.
The children made their requests. Eldest son wants a rope and apparently also a toy snowman that he later explained would he used for testing Newton’s theories on gravity. The girl was shy.
After Santa fields requests you take pictures of course. I loved this experience but will note they pulled the trick where they take photos you know are good but give you the crappy one for free and upsell the good ones.
