It is worth pointing out again that Newt Gingrich is one of the chief inspirations for the downfall of the Republic in Star Wars.

Newt Gingrich is where Nute Gunray derives his name.
Newt Gingrich led to the partisan gridlock that George Lucas was warning us about in The Phantom Menace.
This is Lot Dodd (named after former awful Senators Trent Lott and Chris Dodd). He's the Senator for the Trade Federation. There is an actual corporation whose sole motive is profit in the senate.

That is troubling.
This was Lucas warning us about the problems with corporate influence on our democratic institutions and how it erodes things in ways that are ultimately bad for people. The rich get richer.

That's how Mitch McConnell's senate runs.
Lucas was taking lessons from history and applying them to the prequels so that we could avoid our own Sith lords taking over. It's about democracy decaying into authoritarianism. And we're living that moment and we're working hard on dodging that bullet.
So... Newt Gingrich penning editorials to refuse to recognize a duly elected president is wholly consistent with his character and caricature.

He's personally part of the slippery slope that leads to authoritarianism. And George Lucas has been trying to warn us for decades.

I’ve been reminded by more than a few in this thread that another political villain that Nute Gunray got his name from was Ronald Reagan. (Gunray - Raygun)...
