Let's talk about Black women and the U.S. Senate. Only two Black women in two centuries have ever served. Let's talk about where we go from here. #BlackWomenSenators
There is a Ram in the bush. Her name is Lisa Blunt Rochester. Sister Lisa is Delaware's lone Congresswoman and is the Black woman most poised to join the Senate should Tom Carper retire as he almost did in 2018. #BlackWomenSenators
Mrs. Rochester is the only Black woman elected to statewide office in Deleware and the second person of color to serve. Delaware hasn't been hospitable to Black officeholders in statewide office, but Lisa is respected on both sides of the aisle. #BlackWomenSenators
Mrs. Rochester knows how bare-knuckled politics can be in the first state. She saw it first hand when her father was elbowed out of the race for Lt. Governor in 2008. Ted Blunt served on the Wilmington City Council for many years. #BlackWomenSenators
Senator Carper and former and current governor Jack Markell and John Carney went to Ted Blunt's house to tell him to drop out of the race for Lt. Governor in favor of a white candidate. He did. They won't dare do the same to Lisa. #BlackWomenSenators
