/HANC is lead by Calvin Welch, w/ @ChristinEvans as the heir apparent. They're mostly out-of-touch former hippies who became self-appointed stewards of the Haight decades ago. City officials call them "professional citizens" & they want SF frozen in the 1970s forever.
/After 2010, HANC had been diminishing in relevancy & was mostly known for being obstructionists, such as opposing new housing, food/alcohol permits, bike share stations, pro soccer & the closure of the HANC recycling center (where they made decent $$). https://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/nevius/article/HANC-finally-at-the-end-of-the-line-isn-t-it-3684759.php
/But HANC saw a lifeline in @DeanPreston & has been a major booster of his since his first supervisor run in 2016. Shortly after being elected, Dean awarded the then-president of HANC a commendation from the city & added HANC members to various committees https://www.hanc-sf.org/24-home/543-tes-welborn-receives-commendation
/That HANC article opposing @UCSF's expansion also appeared in @48hills, the outlet that coincidentally received a $$ donation from HANC in July & declared @DeanPreston Best Politician (2020) just in time for his re-election campaign a few months later. https://48hills.org/2020/10/best-of-the-bay-2020-city-living-winners/
@SFyimby members like @theodore_gordon @samdman95 can probably share more about HANC and Welch's efforts to downzone San Francisco in the 1970s.
