Great question!
It’s a common thread we talk about through most podcast episodes but basically it’s finding value within yourself as an actor and holding onto it no matter what the industry throws at you.
If, for example, your journey is school, drama school, industry..

You go from getting validation from grades, to validation from acting tutors which inevitably leads to trying to find validation from the industry (casting directors, producers, peers, credits) which means, because of the nature of our industry, you’ll never feel fulfilled...
Because you’ll get more no’s than yes’, you won’t get replies, you’ll go months/years without work and you’ll start to doubt yourself and your talent. So if you try to find happiness in the industry - there’s a high chance you’ll never get it and you’ll be miserable!
But if you know your worth yourself 100% then it’s easier to not let outside factors determine your value. So you may not work for 2 years...but you know you’re still a talented, worthy actor and it’s just the ways things are - rather than spiralling into self doubt!
But it’s a lot easier said than done! And it takes work. But just because actors being miserable is normalised doesn’t make it right! And all the industry professionals we’ve had on the podcast have said that actors should find confidence and value in themselves first, which also
then makes them give better performances too! As @SophHollandCast said in her episode “you can’t put your value in the business”.
We need to remember that we, as ourselves, are enough - without all the things we THINK make us “good” actors and worthy of the space we take up 🥰
